At Valeo Construction, part of our guiding principles is communicating and promoting our high stance when it comes to Occupational Health and Safety. We believe it is imperative that a strong OH&S platform be the guiding force for our practices and construction methodology at every level. Thanks to the long-standing combined experience of our hand-picked staff, we at Valeo have a keen appreciation for the need of safe working practices.
Our commitment begins with our OH&S Policy which endorses our objective to provide all workers and visitors with an environment that is safe and free from risk. This is encapsulated and shown in our core value of excellence in safety.
We ensure that our daily operations comply with all legislative and regulatory requirements to ensure the safety of all site staff, sub-contractors and the public. This is put into practice through a range of practical initiatives:
- All site managers and company safety representatives are accredited to a minimum OH&S Level 3;
- All our site staff and senior management team are trained in first aid;
- All our staff and sub-contractors participate in regular safety meetings;
- Regular internal and external workshops and training initiatives.
The Valeo Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) is modelled to comply with Australian Standards (AS/NZ 4801) and the stringent requirements of the Office of the Federal Safety Commissioner. Valeo is also registered with the Victorian State Government’s Construction Supplier Register (CSR).
Our OHSMS provides the important foundation for which we base our daily operations across all Valeo sites. This is achieved by conducting regular OH&S inspections and risk assessments to ensure the successful implementation of a strong OHSMS, including communicating regularly with WorkSafe Victoria.
We provide safety resources to all Valeo Construction staff through our industry partners such as;
- Master Builders Association of Victoria (MBAV)
- Safety Institute of Australia (SIA)
- WHS Monitor
- Various preferred Registered Training Organisations (RTOs)
This entire commitment can be proven by our unsurpassed safety statistics experiencing very low incident rates. Our recent yearly statistics provided by WorkCover shows that our industry rate performed 35.97% better than the industry average. This figure has consistently reduced year after year.
At Valeo, we operate with a viewpoint that a strong OH&S platform is not only a professional obligation, but also an important ethical and moral responsibility.
